Kerr Arts & Cultural Center’s Executive Director Debbie Minns looks tired, but happy. “Getting ready for the Kerrville Outdoor Painters Event each Fall always takes a lot of effort, but it’s worth it,” she smiles. “We have dozens of top-rated Plein Air painters who come from all over the country to stay in our community for four days and compete with each other painting in full view of the public at beautiful Hill Country sites. Our regional art community is always so energized for this event, and Kerrville gets lots of visitors from all over!”
Asked why people come for this event, Minns smiles and notes, “I guess it’s because who wouldn’t love taking a picnic lunch and watching talented artists creating great art all around the Hill Country, and then coming back to town, rooting for your favorite artist in a Wet Paint “Quick Draw” competition, checking out the KACC Galleries to see the Plein Air paintings created over the past few days, and enjoying a fantastic Street Party going on everywhere you turn!” The four-day event runs October 5th – 9th and the Quick Draw Contest/Street Party and the KOPE Reception take place from 5-8 pm on October 7th.
Meanwhile, in addition to the outdoor paint event, KACC is hosting two major shows and a major workshop at virtually the same time! From Sept. 29th through Oct. 22nd The Guadalupe Watercolor Group will be exhibiting their Annual Juried Show in the Avery Gallery, and artist Brian Mantz will be showing an inspired collection of oils, acrylics, paper collage and calligraphy entitled “Introducing …. Unico” in the Derby Gallery.
KACC is also a strong supporter of the community art event “”Kerrville Chalk Festival” October 15-16 where street artists will be creating ephemeral art on the concrete of Peterson Plaza, located directly behind KACC.
The free, public reception for both the Watercolor and Mantz shows will be Saturday, October 8th from 2-4 pm. No reservations needed.
Finally, immediately following the Outdoor Painters event, beginning Sunday Oct. 9th Bob Rohm, the Judge from the just-completed multi-day KOPE, will be teaching a three-day workshop that is not to be missed, although seats are very limited. If interested, please call KACC at once. Everything can be handled by either calling KACC or communicating through our website.
