October is a favorite month of watercolor fans in the Hill Country because this is when the Guadalupe Watercolor Group holds its annual juried show and sale at KACC. Founded in 1993, the Guadalupe Watercolor Group is dedicated to sharing new ideas and creative experiences with members and visitors alike. GWG’s programs are educational and inspiring, with speakers who are accomplished artists and teachers from far and wide.
Also featured in October, the works of Connie Young and Cita VanDyke offer complementary images of Hill Country life in multiple media. Connie Young’s oil paintings and photographs reflect the images that surround her on her Hill Country ranch, while Cita VanDyke’s ceramics offer fanciful, colorful interpretations of rural Texas life.
The free public reception for The Guadalupe Watercolor Group and the Young/VanDyke shows will be held on Saturday September 26th, from 1 to 3 pm in the KACC galleries at 228 Earl Garrett Street in downtown Kerrville.
Also coming in October, the annual Kerrville Outdoor Painters’ Event draws crowds of people from San Antonio, Austin, Houston and Dallas as well as crowds of local “Plein Air” painting enthusiasts. The four day event, from September 30 – October 4, will see dozens of artists from across the US fanning out to their favorite locations across the Hill Country, with fans watching as the paintings evolve before their eyes. These four days are jammed with colorful events including a Quick Draw art competition, a huge downtown Block Party, and a reception for the Outdoor Painters event on Friday, October 2nd from 5:30 – 8:00 PM at KACC. Works painted during the 4 day event will hang in the Avery Gallery at KACC from October 2nd through October 24th.
