Skilled woodworkers from across Texas are invited to apply to exhibit their best work at the Eighteenth Annual Texas Furniture Makers’ Show presented by Woodcraft®. The Show will be staged at Kerr Arts & Cultural Center, Kerrville, Texas from October 26 through December 1, 2017. A free public reception on November 4th from 5:30 – 8 pm, will include a delicious spread of food and beverages and a ceremony where over $6000 in prizes will be awarded.

The Kerr Arts & Cultural Center’s newly renovated triple galleries provide expansive spaces for shows like this annual tribute to the skills and imagination of the finest artists currently working in diverse, deeply-rooted woodworking traditions.

Judges for the 18th annual Texas Furniture Makers’ Show will be: Ron Goldman, Tim Snyder and Louis Fry. Ron Goldman is the founder and publisher of “Woodworker West” Magazine, and Tim Snyder is editor-in-chief of “Woodcraft Magazine”. Louis Fry’s work has appeared in Architectural Digest, Texas Monthly, Urban Home, Furniture & Cabinetmaking and many other prestigious publications.

In recent years, the Show has sold up to $50,000 worth of furniture and accessories. This is a must-enter annual event and a great selling and client-contact venue for fine furniture makers.

All applications must be submitted with a $25 non-refundable jury fee. Entries will be judged by a panel of woodworking professionals. The final application deadline is Friday, September 15, 2017.  In keeping with KACC’s mission to encourage new furniture makers to enter the craft, we include a category for “Apprentice Furniture Maker” on the Entry Application. KACC galleries for the Texas Furniture Makers’ Show are open six days a week, Tuesday through Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday 1 PM to 4 PM. Admission is always free.

KACC is featuring three high quality workshops this summer and fall covering a wide range of art techniques that will appeal to beginning and advanced artists alike. 

Rita Kirkman August Workshop

Rita Kirkman August Workshop

On August 9th-11th from 9:00am to 4:00pm Rita Kirkman’s classic pastel workshop focuses on techniques for painting rapidly in small scale to improve your skills and expand your knowledge. Participants will learn to capture light with an under-painting of warm-toned pastel primers, and to grow their grasp of value, temperature, color, and composition in a relaxed and fun atmosphere! The workshop cost is $300 per student and is suitable for everyone from beginning to advanced artists.

 

Lee Ricks Plein Air Workshop

Lee Ricks Plein Air Workshop

On October 2nd-3rd from 9:00am to 4:00pm Lee Ricks will lead a Plein Air workshop on location at Neunhoffer Ranch in Kerrville, Texas. This workshop will precede the Kerrville Outdoor Painters’ Event (KOPE) 2017. Students will meet at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center on day one at 8:30am. From there, students will caravan to the Neunhoffer Ranch. The workshop will begin with a demonstration by Lee, then each student will be given individualized instruction each day as they work on their paintings. The workshop cost is $220 per student and is suitable for all skill levels.

Julie Davis November landscape workshop

On November 3rd & 4th from 9:00am to 4:00pm Julie Davis will conduct a workshop designed to strengthen your landscape painting skills. Davis will share the practices and techniques she uses to successfully translate the complexity of the landscape into a strong painting. Participants will learn tools for efficiently gathering information outside, reviewing composition and design, and reinforcing values, as well as the importance of simplifying. Demos and instruction will be followed by painting en plein air (weather permitting), with individual attention at the easel. Workshop cost is $275 per student and is designed to accommodate all levels of skill.
