KACC July Events Bursting With Color & Excitement!

Kerr Arts & Cultural Center’s 2015 “Youth Art Camp” will feature two sessions this summer; July 13th – 17th, and July 20th – 24th. Classes are open to children ages 6 – 14. Students who are 8 years old and up select their daily project from several options. All classes will be kept small to
facilitate individualized instruction. Each session will run from 9 am – Noon. Participants will learn hands-on, working with qualified adult artist-instructors in a wide variety of genres including Painting, Dance, Fiber Arts, Theater, Sculpture, Crafts, Woodworking, Cooking and more.

Students can attend all 5 days per session for a $75 fee, or can select “a la carte” at $18 per class. Students may also choose to attend both full-week sessions for $150. Scholarships are available – please contact KACC for information.

July will also see the annual Hometown Crafts Teachers Show. KACC is putting out a call for entries from artist/educators of all kinds – active or retired, any level or grade, from public or private schools, and even those who serve as tutors. Hometown Crafts, is a big fan of teachers and wants to give them a chance to display their creative, artistic side. KACC Executive
Director, Debbie Minns commented, “Few other groups of people work harder or with more dedication than our teachers, and this show is our way of giving back to these people who dedicate their lives to inspiring our young people. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing sponsorship of these shows by Hometown Crafts!”

In addition to the Youth Art Camp and Hometown Crafts Teachers Show, July will also feature the American Plains Artists Award show, with paintings by Patsy Lindamood and sculpture by Jammey Huggins.

Jammey Huggins notes that “The spiritualism and mysticism of the West are at the roots of all of my pieces. I have always loved the outdoors, and even as a child I had an awareness of the many living creatures in my surroundings. I now see each one as an individual with many unique characteristics. It is the spirit of their lives and emotions, as well as the physical power and sensual form that they possess, that I try to capture in each of my works.”

Patsy Lindamood’s work derives from research and observation of creatures in their environments, in the wild whenever possible. Long hikes through wildlife refuges and extensive camping trips to state and national parks have provided Patsy with great adventure and abundant inspiration. Patsy`s paintings are life-size, bold with color, rich with texture, and bursting with presence. Patsy says “My intent is to produce works that evoke an urge to reach out and touch . . . coarse fur, leathery skin, whispery feathers. Maybe its fortunate that my pastel works are shown under glass: I would never wish my collectors to suffer a bite or scratch from one of these wild things!”

July will also feature the 2GypsyZ Art Show, an inspiring display of expressionist works by Marcy Dorman and Jeanie Williamson. You can learn more about these two accomplished Kerrville area artists on their FaceBook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/2-GypsyZ-Art/412931218838561.

The free public opening and reception for all July shows will be from 1-3 PM on Saturday, July 11th.
